Job details
About this role
Role overview A Staff Software Engineer is needed to join an Enterprise AI Governance team building the platforms, services, and controls that let large organizations securely configure, govern, and audit AI coding assistant experiences at scale. The work centers on architecting highly available, secure backend services and APIs that give enterprise customers fine-grained policy enforcement, visibility, and configuration management, with a strong emphasis on distributed systems where trust and compliance are first-class product concerns. The role is remote within the United States and blends deep technical leadership with hands-on engineering across a distributed, cross-functional team.
Responsibilities - Design, prototype, build, test, and ship backend services and APIs that scale across a large platform, owning the systems end-to-end from design through on-call support. - Lead technical direction for the team, setting standards for system design, reliability, operational excellence, code quality, and review practices that grow other engineers. - Author architecture briefs and proposals, run code experiments, and drive a technical roadmap aligned with product and platform goals. - Partner with product, security, and adjacent platform teams to ensure governance capabilities keep pace with rapid growth while remaining simple and trustworthy for customers. - Build and refine CI/CD pipelines, testing plans, success metrics, and telemetry-driven debugging practices to maintain security, compliance, and reliability. - Advocate for the long-term health of owned systems, participate in on-call and first-responder rotations, and mentor engineers through pairing and code review.
Requirements - 9+ years of professional software engineering experience (or 7+ years with a relevant bachelor's, 5+ with a relevant master's, or 8+ with an associate's), with proven production coding in languages such as C, C++, C#, Java, JavaScript, Go, Ruby, Rust, or Python. - Deep experience designing distributed systems that balance security, compliance, and scale, ideally where governance, policy, or auditing is a primary requirement. - Demonstrated ability to lead technical direction across a team or organization, including mentorship, code review, and cross-functional collaboration with product and security partners. - Strong fundamentals in API design, automated testing, CI/CD, telemetry, and debugging complex production systems. - Track record of shipping maintainable, high-quality code in collaborative, diverse engineering environments.
Nice to have - Familiarity with AI/ML platforms, model governance, or developer tooling at enterprise scale. - Experience building for regulated or security-conscious customers and integrating compliance requirements into product design.
Benefits and work setup - Remote-first work within the United States. - Competitive compensation with potential for annual bonus, stock, and other role-based incentives, plus learning and growth support.
