Senior Design Engineer
Job details
About this role
Role overview This is a senior individual contributor role focused on bridging design and engineering within a mature B2B SaaS platform. The position centers on evolving a long-standing design system, building reusable production components, and improving fidelity between Figma libraries and shipped code. The work spans a complex, decade-old product surface used by thousands of companies, with high leverage across product, design, and engineering teams.
Responsibilities - Own and evolve the design system across Figma, Storybook, and production code, establishing a single source of truth for design and engineering. - Build, refactor, and maintain accessible, well-documented UI components that product teams can adopt across core surfaces. - Identify and reduce drift between existing component libraries, legacy UI patterns, and the evolving Figma system. - Establish patterns, conventions, and guardrails that improve consistency, accessibility, maintainability, and developer experience. - Prototype new interaction patterns and reference implementations in code to help teams align quickly and de-risk complex product decisions. - Partner with designers, product managers, and engineers to define quality standards for complex workflows and enterprise-grade experiences. - Use AI tools thoughtfully to accelerate prototyping, iteration, and system maintenance while exercising strong editorial judgment.
Requirements - 6+ years of experience designing and building production frontend experiences, ideally in complex B2B SaaS, enterprise software, developer tools, or similar deep product domains. - Strong frontend engineering skills with modern web technologies and component-based architecture; ability to ramp quickly in a large, mature codebase. - High UI/UX craft and strong design-systems experience, with knowledge of accessibility patterns, focus management, and inclusive component states. - Strong communication skills, with the ability to explain technical and design-system decisions to both specialists and non-specialists. - A portfolio or body of work demonstrating shipped design-engineering impact, including production UI, component systems, prototypes, Storybook examples, or design-system documentation.
Nice to have - Experience working on products with large existing frontend surface areas, multiple product teams, and mature or evolving design systems. - Background in customer support, customer operations, collaboration software, internal tools, developer tools, or workflow-heavy SaaS products. - Experience consolidating fragmented component libraries or aligning Figma libraries with production code. - Experience using AI-assisted coding or design tools to accelerate prototyping, refactoring, and product iteration.
Benefits and work setup - Competitive salary and equity participation in a post-Series D company. - Private health insurance, including no-cost plan options for employees. - Paid parental leave and flexible time off policy. - Hybrid flexibility, with work-from-home typically available two days per week unless the role is posted as fully remote. - Mental health support, family planning benefits, and a monthly lifestyle stipend for fitness, health, and wellness. - Additional wellness days in months without holidays, plus a winter office closure between Christmas and New Year's Day.
