About this role
Role overview This position sits inside the user experience practice of a fully remote digital services team that partners with government clients. The role focuses on a multi-year effort to build and scale a grants management platform for a federal human services agency, working with grant recipients, tribal grantees, and program offices to improve how forms are submitted, reviewed, and processed.
Responsibilities - Lead user research planning and execution in partnership with a design lead, including outreach and recruitment of grant recipients for interviews and usability testing. - Map current grant reporting workflows through service blueprinting, identifying pain points and opportunities to reduce administrative burden on grantees. - Translate research findings into clear artifacts and recommendations that inform product, design, and engineering priorities. - Run discovery and validation work in parallel with delivery, adjusting as priorities shift during the second year of the project. - Facilitate client discussions, build relationships across multiple program offices, and guide differing perspectives toward shared direction. - Maintain design artifacts and a research repository, and document processes and outcomes for both internal alignment and client-facing communications.
Requirements - Two to five years of practical experience in service design, UX research, or a closely related discipline. - Strong client management, facilitation, and written and verbal communication skills. - Demonstrated ability to collaborate across cross-functional teams that include engineers, product managers, and other designers. - Eligibility to obtain and maintain a federal public trust clearance. - Residency in the United States for three of the last five years.
Nice to have - Hands-on experience designing digital forms and the surrounding submission and review workflows. - Interest in applying AI tools to research workflows, repository organization, and content design tasks.
Benefits and work setup - Fully remote role with a multi-stage interview process that includes a phone screen, a technical case-study review, and a behavioral round.
