Remote job
Lead Frontend Engineer
Job details
About this role
Role overview This is a high-ownership Lead Frontend Engineer position within a small product engineering team building consumer fintech tools that improve financial wellbeing for underbanked workers. The role combines hands-on coding with technical leadership, owning the end-to-end web and mobile experience while guiding a small team that is growing. It suits someone who thrives in ambiguity, ships frequently, and wants direct influence on product direction and engineering culture.
Responsibilities - Own the frontend experience end-to-end across web and mobile, from problem framing through production - Lead complex feature work: investigate the problem, design the approach, ship quickly, and iterate from real user data - Define and evolve technical direction, architecture, patterns, tooling, and developer experience - Partner with product and design to shape solutions rather than only executing pre-defined specs - Write substantial code, treating this as a hands-on engineering role first and a leadership role second - Mentor engineers and help build a culture centred on quality, speed, and ownership - Use AI tools such as LLMs for coding, debugging, automated code review, and design doc review as a force multiplier, and help push that practice further across the team
Requirements - Track record of shipping complex, user-facing products across web and mobile - Strong product instincts, with the confidence to push back when something does not serve the user - Deep TypeScript fundamentals, including component architecture, state management, and performance - Experience mentoring engineers and setting team-wide standards - Comfort with ambiguity, able to take a rough problem and turn it into a shipped solution - Pragmatic judgment balancing architectural soundness with shipping and learning
Nice to have - Background in modern frameworks such as React or Vue, with willingness to ramp on an Angular and Ionic stack
Benefits and work setup - Remote position with required timezone overlap in the Eastern Hemisphere (EMEA and APJ) - Small, high-caliber team with minimal bureaucracy, fast feedback loops, and visible business impact - Significant ownership and technical leadership as the organisation scales internationally - Direct influence on how frontend engineering evolves within the company
