Job details
About this role
Role overview Lead a small, experienced engineering team building a service that identifies and classifies automated internet traffic, including AI agents, bots, and browser automation. You will guide the product from beta through general availability and commercial launch while establishing reliable detection, a strong quality process, and an AI-assisted way of working for the wider engineering organization.
Responsibilities - Own the engineering plan and readiness criteria for product stages, including scope, estimates, service reliability, operating limits, and API coverage. - Establish ongoing measurement of detection quality, using representative test data, false-positive and false-negative checks, regression tests, and drift monitoring. - Guide detection across browser and edge environments, prioritizing customer exposure and evolving classification detail and confidence. - Set service operating targets for throughput, latency, rate limits, and availability; manage staged releases with feature flags and rollback plans. - Turn design partner feedback and customer-reported errors into prioritized engineering work. - Hire and develop the team, support its independence, and evaluate AI coding workflows and contract-first API practices.
Requirements - At least 3 years managing software engineers and 8 years in software engineering, with experience delivering products through launch. - Ability to assess designs and code, engage in architecture decisions, and guide senior engineers. - Relevant experience in bot detection, fraud or abuse prevention, web security, browser engineering, or high-volume APIs. - Experience using engineering quality measures such as test corpora, precision and recall, false-positive and false-negative tracking, regression suites, or service objectives. - Hands-on use of AI coding tools and sound judgment about where they help. - Experience working across product, research, and customer-facing teams, with clear communication of dependencies and tradeoffs.
Benefits and work setup - Fully remote role open across the United States, subject to location and work-authorization restrictions; visa sponsorship is not offered. - Listed base salary range is $159,000–$215,000, with example ranges varying by location.
