Forward Deployed Engineer

Role overview Help customer engineering teams put specialized language models into production. The work spans customer discovery, implementation, model evaluation, and deployment across varied environments, with a focus on delivering measurable improvements in accuracy, latency, and cost. You’ll also turn lessons from deployments into reusable engineering improvements.

Responsibilities - Work alongside customer engineers to scope, build, and deploy model integrations in their systems. - Develop production code such as APIs, data pipelines, evaluation tools, and services for cloud, private cloud, or on-premises environments. - Fine-tune and evaluate models using customer data, comparing results against existing solutions. - Troubleshoot authentication, networking, data quality, GPU use, inference speed, and unusual edge cases. - Lead technical work from early customer discussions through launch, coordinating with commercial and technical colleagues. - Convert field work into reusable tools, reference designs, SDK improvements, and product or research feedback.

Requirements - A computer science or related degree, or equivalent practical experience. - At least three years of software engineering experience; customer-facing engineering, consulting, or solutions work is useful. - Strong Python skills and working knowledge of TypeScript, Go, or Rust. - Experience shipping machine learning or language model systems, such as APIs, fine-tuning, evaluations, retrieval-augmented generation, or agents. - Familiarity with cloud platforms, containers, orchestration, networking, and security fundamentals. - Ability to explain technical choices to both engineering teams and business leaders, and to take ownership of resolving problems. - Willingness to travel to customer sites when needed.

Nice to have - Experience with named entity recognition or other information extraction models. - Experience working at an early-stage company.
