Engineering Manager Android

Role overview

Senior leadership role responsible for building, scaling, and guiding an Android engineering team that delivers consumer-facing mobile applications. The position partners closely with product, design, and business stakeholders to set technical direction, drive performance and reliability, and foster a metrics-driven engineering culture.

Responsibilities

- Recruit, hire, and lead a high-caliber team of Android engineers - Set and maintain service-level objectives for application performance, latency, and efficiency - Coach and mentor engineers to support their professional growth - Drive a culture of metrics-driven quality, transparent processes, and operational efficiency - Partner with product, design, and business teams to deliver user-friendly mobile experiences - Implement modern tooling and engineering practices to improve reliability and feature velocity

Requirements

- Bachelor's or master's degree in computer science or equivalent, with 8+ years of professional experience - Hands-on experience shipping one or more Android apps to the Google Play Store - Strong proficiency with Java, Kotlin, the Android SDK, and the broader Android ecosystem - Familiarity with Material Design guidelines and common mobile UX patterns and anti-patterns - Experience with libraries such as Retrofit, OkHttp, Picasso, RxJava, Gson, and Android Architecture Components - Solid grasp of functional and reactive programming, multi-threading, and architectural patterns such as MVVM, with attention to testability - Comfort with Git workflows and continuous integration practices - Strong teamwork, planning, and cross-functional collaboration skills
