Senior Mobile Software Architect

Role overview

A mission-driven multimedia organization is hiring a Senior Mobile Software Architect to set technical direction across complex engineering programs that span multiple product lines, distributed systems, and mobile platforms. The role owns end-to-end architecture—from platform services through client applications to downstream data pipelines—balancing performance, developer velocity, privacy, and cost at public-media scale.

Responsibilities

- Define shared architectural patterns and modular design systems across native iOS and Android codebases plus cross-platform integrations to maximize reuse and velocity. - Lead platform-to-client architecture for personalized, high-traffic content delivery supporting localized media experiences across owned properties and partner networks. - Evaluate build-versus-vendor trade-offs, introduce modern technologies, and establish architectural standards adopted across divisions. - Provide technical oversight across cross-functional roadmaps, OKR planning, and multi-team initiatives, including architectural reviews and substantive code feedback. - Embed privacy compliance (GDPR/CPRA), security standards, CDN caching strategies, and cloud cost optimization into solution designs. - Participate in CI/CD automation across QA, UAT, and production, share on-call duties for critical incident response, and mentor engineers through onboarding, training, and interviewing.

Requirements

- 7+ years of progressive software engineering experience with demonstrated success designing technical architecture for complex, multi-team platform environments. - Deep proficiency in native mobile architecture for iOS and Android using Swift, Kotlin, Java, or Objective-C. - Proven track record designing high-traffic, resilient distributed systems, RESTful and GraphQL APIs, and client-server integration patterns. - Practical experience with media playback, streaming protocols, CDN configuration, and cloud infrastructure ecosystems such as AWS or GCP. - Hands-on work integrating GDPR/CPRA compliance and cloud cost optimization frameworks in high-availability environments. - Strong written and verbal communication for presenting architecture proposals, trade-offs, and roadmaps to non-technical stakeholders.

Nice to have

- Familiarity with modern backend languages such as Go or PHP in event-driven or microservice architectures. - Experience optimizing edge media caches, working with relational databases and SQL, or contributing to open-source projects. - Bachelor's degree in Computer Science, Software Engineering, or a related field.
