Senior Design Engineer

Role overview Build and ship interfaces that help energy companies connect, integrate and manage devices such as electric vehicles, heat pumps and solar equipment. This senior design engineering role bridges product design and frontend development, combining production implementation, rapid prototyping and design system work across customer products and the public website.

Responsibilities - Implement production interfaces in code for an energy management platform, device connection flows and the website. - Develop and maintain design system components, tokens and documentation in coordination with frontend engineering, keeping implementation aligned with design tools. - Create code-based prototypes to test ideas with customers and teammates before committing to a design direction. - Improve interaction quality, motion, accessibility and performance across shipped experiences. - Collaborate with engineers on frontend implementation, review and release practices, and help shape clear, usable APIs. - Build tools that improve collaboration between design and engineering, and contribute to the team’s use of AI.

Requirements - At least five years of experience building user interfaces, with strong React and TypeScript skills and a solid grounding in HTML, CSS and accessibility. - A portfolio demonstrating both design and implementation work. - Experience contributing to a design system used by a team or organization. - Familiarity with APIs, including reading documentation, working with real data and understanding developer needs. - Ability to take an early-stage idea through implementation and release without relying on a detailed specification. - Clear written and verbal communication with designers and engineers; recent practical use of AI in design or engineering and a considered view of its strengths and limits.
