Frontend JavaScript Design System Engineer
Job details
About this role
Role overview A remote role based in Costa Rica or Peru for a frontend engineer who specializes in design systems. Day-to-day work involves crafting reusable, schema-driven components that render content dynamically from configuration, translating UX designs into pixel-perfect responsive interfaces, and integrating those components across schemas, data pipelines, runtime rendering, and content platforms. The role collaborates across functions to maintain consistency and quality at scale.
Responsibilities - Build and maintain reusable, scalable UI components and modules using TypeScript and JavaScript with a component-based framework. - Develop schema-driven frontend solutions capable of dynamically rendering content through configuration-based architectures. - Translate UX and UI designs into pixel-perfect, responsive, cross-browser-compatible interfaces. - Integrate components across architectural layers including schemas, data pipelines, runtime rendering, and content platforms. - Write automated unit, integration, and regression tests to ensure component quality and stability. - Uphold design system standards, performance budgets, and frontend best practices while optimizing for long-term maintainability. - Navigate complex codebases and deliver high-quality solutions with minimal supervision.
Requirements - 7+ years of professional frontend software engineering experience. - Strong proficiency in JavaScript and TypeScript. - Hands-on experience with at least one modern component-driven framework such as React, Angular, or Vue, plus the ability to ramp quickly on proprietary frameworks. - Proven experience building schema-driven and data-driven UI components. - Solid grasp of component architecture, reusable design patterns, and tokenized design systems. - Advanced CSS, including SCSS or Sass, Flexbox, CSS Grid, responsive design, and semantic HTML. - Experience with automated testing frameworks such as Jest, Jasmine, or Karma. - Deep understanding of the DOM lifecycle, browser rendering, and frontend performance optimization. - Comfort with edge cases, dynamic content rendering, localization, and responsive behavior. - Strong problem-solving skills, ability to work autonomously, and Git fluency. - Upper-intermediate to advanced English communication skills.
Nice to have - Prior work on a design system, component library, or enterprise-scale frontend platform. - Exposure to Google-style or proprietary frameworks and tooling (e.g., Wiz, Blaze/Bazel) and CMS-driven frontend architectures. - Familiarity with accessibility standards (WCAG or a11y), frontend performance optimization at scale, and high-traffic web platforms.
