Role overview

This founding leadership seat establishes a new R&D Center of Excellence that supplies top-tier engineering talent to a portfolio of B2B software companies. You will build both the organization and the engineering system behind it, then deploy engineers into portfolio companies as embedded contributors rather than outsourced contractors. The role reports directly to senior leadership and partners with CEOs and CTOs across healthcare, automotive, and infrastructure software businesses.

Responsibilities

- Build the Center of Excellence from initial hires into a multi-vertical engineering organization - Define and own the quality bar for engineering hires and deployed engineers across the portfolio - Lead the forward-deployment model, deciding which engineers go where and for how long - Chair biweekly vertical forums with portfolio technical leaders and operating partners for calibration and staffing decisions - Set portfolio-wide engineering standards for how software is built, tested, shipped, and observed - Own the process and infrastructure improvements that take a lean team from idea to production quickly and reliably - Develop cross-cutting capabilities such as AI agents, automation, and data practices that benefit every company in the portfolio

Requirements

- Significant engineering leadership experience at organizations large enough to demonstrate that structure, standards, and hiring drive scale - Hands-on technical depth to recognize real engineering versus surface activity across a wide modern tech landscape - Track record of leading technical hiring and raising the quality bar across teams - Strong communication and judgment to partner with CEOs, CTOs, and operating partners - Experience evaluating engineering quality across modern stacks including TypeScript, Python, C#/.NET, Java, Go, and others - Working familiarity with cloud infrastructure, data platforms, and modern AI tooling including LLMs, RAG, and agentic workflows

Nice to have

- Domain experience in regulated healthcare software, automotive platforms, infrastructure, or B2B SaaS at scale
