About this role
Role overview
Build and evolve the systems that meter product usage, calculate charges, and support customer payments across self-service and enterprise offerings. This backend-leaning full-stack role spans reliable billing infrastructure, customer-facing payment journeys, and careful modernization of services that process revenue.
Responsibilities - Build and maintain usage metering that records requests accurately without adding unnecessary latency. - Help migrate enterprise pricing and usage processing, including services that handle streams of usage events. - Improve upgrade and payment flows, including support for multiple customer entities and payment providers. - Partner with finance and tax colleagues on compliance, audit, and reporting needs. - Support pricing and growth experiments with product and growth teams. - Investigate complex billing problems using customer reports, logs, and code, then address their underlying causes. - Plan and roll out changes to existing systems carefully to avoid disrupting customers.
Requirements - Strong Python skills and a solid background in backend engineering. - Familiarity with software and system design patterns, APIs, cloud infrastructure, storage, and data structures. - Sound testing and security practices, and close attention to detail when changing live systems that handle payments. - Ability to learn a large codebase quickly and diagnose difficult production issues. - Evidence of solving challenging engineering problems through projects or code contributions; formal degrees and certifications are not required.
Nice to have - Experience with payment providers, billing, or usage-based pricing. - Familiarity with stream processing, high-throughput event pipelines, finance or audit requirements, or Kubernetes.
