Remote job
Staff Software Engineer - Data
Job details
About this role
Role overview A Staff-level engineering position on the Data Foundation team responsible for how on-chain data enters, is represented, and is delivered from a multi-chain analytics platform. The role sits at the intersection of product ambiguity and large-scale distributed systems, owning end-to-end components from design through production. It is a fully distributed role suited to a generalist who reasons from first principles and is comfortable shaping scope before handing work to others.
Responsibilities - Translate ambiguous product requirements into technical designs, modeling the domain, defining interfaces and workflows, and navigating trade-offs. - Break large problems into work other engineers can own, sequencing delivery so something useful ships early. - Drive high-impact architectural decisions across the data platform and own components end to end. - Work across Go, Kotlin, Rust, and Python, selecting the right tool for the job rather than the familiar one. - Design for correctness and performance at scale, including large-volume ingestion, distributed processing, and data lake storage. - Raise the bar on design reviews, testing, and how the team decomposes work. - Mentor other engineers by example inside a fully distributed team.
Requirements - Strong generalist background with solid computer science fundamentals that transfer across new technologies. - Habit of reasoning from first principles by surfacing assumptions, constraints, and invariants before reaching for a pattern. - Hands-on experience designing and shipping distributed data systems, with explicit contracts, state transitions, invariants, and failure modes. - Comfort with ambiguity, including talking to product, customers, and engineers, then committing to and defending a scope. - Practical fluency with AI coding tools, including awareness of their failure modes. - Clear written communication suitable for a distributed team.
Nice to have - Experience with data lakes and formats such as Parquet, Iceberg, or Delta Lake. - Experience at a company where the data itself is the product.
Benefits and work setup - Competitive salary and equity package benchmarked at the top of the industry. - Employee-friendly equity terms with a heavily discounted strike price and a long exercise window. - Five weeks of paid time off plus local public holidays that can be swapped. - Fully remote-first working with flexible hours and an async-friendly culture that limits meeting overload. - Private medical, dental, and vision coverage. - Generous paid parental leave with phased return options. - Quarterly team or company offsites in varied locations and a yearly travel allowance for co-working. - Allowance for home-office or co-working desk setup.
