Senior Software Engineer, Android (Kotlin)

Role overview

This role joins a ten-person Android team building a fully native mobile healthcare application written 100% in Kotlin, using Jetpack Compose and Composable Presenters. The engineer will own features end-to-end, from architectural decisions through Play Store shipping, while mentoring peers and shaping mobile engineering culture. The position can be based out of the San Francisco headquarters or fully remote within the United States.

Responsibilities

- Partner with product managers, designers, QA, and other engineers to drive Android projects from kickoff through release - Contribute to technical decision-making, weighing scope, complexity, and timing trade-offs - Architect code with an emphasis on modularity, reusability, and long-term flexibility - Encourage team growth through mentorship, knowledge sharing, and thorough code reviews - Maintain app quality through testing, monitoring, bug reporting, and troubleshooting

Requirements

- Advanced proficiency in Kotlin - At least 7 years of professional Android development experience using the Android SDK - Track record of taking apps through the full development lifecycle, including shipping on Google Play - Hands-on experience with both JUnit and instrumentation testing on Android - Solid grasp of design patterns and the ability to recognize where to apply them in the codebase - Experience with asynchronous patterns and network communication - Self-management skills with strong follow-through and clear, concise communication - Desire to teach others and elevate the broader engineering team

Nice to have

- Familiarity with Clean Architecture - Exposure to AI agentic development tooling
