Role overview A large chat and community platform centered on gaming is hiring an engineer to strengthen the systems that detect and review harmful content at scale. The role sits on a safety engineering team responsible for content moderation infrastructure, spanning design through post-launch iteration. It is a backend-focused position with close collaboration across trust & safety, ML, policy, and product groups.
Responsibilities - Improve the platform's capacity to detect and review harmful content at scale - Build and maintain production systems operating at massive scale, including on-call participation - Apply an adversarial mindset, weighing security, abuse scenarios, edge cases, and scalability concerns - Partner closely with trust & safety, ML, policy, and product teams to translate requirements into effective solutions - Contribute to open-source safety tooling that supports broader incident response capabilities
Requirements - 3+ years of professional software engineering experience focused on backend services or infrastructure using Python or similar languages - Hands-on experience building and operating distributed systems and production services at scale on cloud platforms such as GCP or AWS - Strong debugging skills with the ability to navigate complex, multi-service codebases - Excellent collaboration and communication skills, including prior work with cross-functional partners
Nice to have - Experience with content moderation, trust & safety, or adjacent problem domains - Familiarity with observability tooling, metrics, and monitoring systems at scale
Benefits and work setup - US base salary range of $160,000 to $220,000, plus equity and benefits - Full-time role with reasonable accommodations available during the interview process
