Senior Software Engineer, Application Security

Role overview

A senior engineering role on an application security team focused on protecting user accounts at scale, with full-stack ownership of authentication and session security. The position centers on designing user-facing security controls, hardening authentication services, and partnering with product teams to roll out stronger account protections for a large consumer platform.

Responsibilities

- Design and ship full-stack, user-facing security features that safeguard hundreds of millions of accounts. - Lead engineering work to strengthen session security and authentication systems end to end. - Operate and maintain security-critical authentication services, owning their correctness and resilience. - Partner with product teams to drive adoption of stronger authentication and ship account security tools. - Investigate emerging account-level threats and design countermeasures ahead of them. - Build automated, self-service controls and tooling to detect and mitigate account security flaws.

Requirements

- 5+ years of experience securing production applications. - 3+ years programming in a general-purpose language such as Python, Go, Java, or Rust. - Hands-on track record shipping production software, including security features, frameworks, or guardrails. - Practical experience with authentication and account security such as WebAuthn, passkeys, FIDO2, MFA, and session management. - Comfort reasoning about the security of complex, unfamiliar systems and giving engineers clear secure-design guidance. - Experience leading security projects with cross-functional groups.

Nice to have

- Experience programming in a systems language such as C or C++. - Background developing, operating, and debugging production systems at scale. - Familiarity with common application vulnerabilities across desktop, web, and mobile platforms. - Cloud platform experience (Google Cloud or comparable providers).

Benefits and work setup

- Full-time position based in the San Francisco Bay Area; candidates must reside in or relocate to the region, and relocation assistance may be available. - US base salary range of $196,000 to $245,000, plus equity and benefits.
