Sr. Backend Engineer - Python/FastAPI

Role overview

Build backend services for workflows that draft and analyze documents with AI. You’ll contribute to reliable, scalable systems in a small engineering team, working closely with product and data colleagues and focusing on Python-based service development.

Responsibilities

- Develop and maintain backend services using Python and FastAPI or a comparable framework. - Design services with asynchronous and event-driven patterns in mind. - Work with relational and document databases, including MySQL and MongoDB. - Support microservices running on AWS or similar managed cloud infrastructure. - Collaborate with product and data teams on document drafting and analysis workflows. - Apply infrastructure-as-code practices where relevant.

Requirements

- Five or more years of backend engineering experience and strong Python skills. - Production experience with FastAPI or a comparable web framework. - Experience with relational and document databases, particularly MySQL and MongoDB. - Familiarity with asynchronous or event-driven architectures. - Working knowledge of AWS microservices and managed services such as ECS and RDS. - Familiarity with Terraform or other infrastructure-as-code tools, and B2 English proficiency.

Nice to have

- Experience with gRPC and Protocol Buffers. - Exposure to data pipelines, cloud data warehouses, or AI and large language model integrations.
