Role overview This position focuses on owning backend workstreams for AEM-based websites and platform projects, building the services, content structures, workflows, and integrations that power production digital experiences. The engineer works closely with architects, frontend engineers, QA, DevOps, content specialists, and client stakeholders to take semi-defined problems through clarification, planning, implementation, testing, and launch.
Responsibilities - Drive backend workstreams from open questions and planning through implementation, testing, and release. - Build AEM features including components, blocks, Touch UI dialogs, Universal Editor content models, Sling Models, servlets, schedulers, workflows, event handlers, and supporting APIs. - Model content well using templates, components, permissions, and workflows that are usable for authors and maintainable for engineers. - Design and ship integrations with external systems using REST or GraphQL, including authentication, validation, retries, timeouts, and failure handling. - Write maintainable code following OSGi configuration, dependency injection, separation of concerns, error handling, and secure development patterns. - Contribute unit and integration coverage, participate in code reviews, and use logs, metrics, traces, and local debugging to resolve defects and performance issues. - Support cloud delivery through Cloud Manager, CI/CD pipelines, Dispatcher configuration, environment variables, secrets, and deployment diagnostics.
Requirements - 3+ years of backend or full-stack software development experience building and supporting production systems. - Professional experience with Java and object-oriented software development. - Hands-on AEM backend experience on production projects, including Edge Delivery Services configuration, the Universal Editor, and Adobe App Builder. - Working knowledge of Sling, OSGi, JCR/Oak, Sling Models, servlets, HTL integration points, workflows, and Maven. - Experience with REST APIs, JSON, authentication, input validation, and integrating with external services. - Familiarity with Git, pull requests, automated builds, and testing practices, plus the ability to debug across application, repository, dispatcher, and integration layers. - A collaborative approach with care for performance, security, accessibility, and maintainability.
