Platform Engineer (FedD200/ FedD201/ FedD202)

Role overview A federal contractor serving the U.S. Navy is hiring a Platform Engineer to sit at the intersection of platform engineering, DevOps, and application security. The engineer will help application development teams integrate, package, secure, deploy, and operate their software on Kubernetes-based delivery environments. The role requires comfort working across application source code, APIs, containers, CI/CD pipelines, Helm charts, and production runtime concerns.

Responsibilities - Innovate by evaluating competing approaches and identifying solutions for complex technical problems. - Solve problems spanning two to three knowledge domains while demonstrating deep expertise in one to two key technologies. - Contribute to strategic planning that aligns technical advancements with mission objectives. - Apply strong programming skills and deep familiarity with Linux/Unix operating systems. - Implement infrastructure as code and contribute to building clusters on Kubernetes distributions such as EKS and RKE2. - Build relationships with external application teams and collaborate across platform teams.

Requirements - Professional experience developing, deploying, supporting, or operating production applications or platform environments. - Hands-on experience with cloud-native technologies, containers, CI/CD, infrastructure as code, or Kubernetes-based environments. - Strong Linux/Unix skills and ability to troubleshoot across application and platform layers. - Experience working with application architectures, source code, APIs, containers, runtime dependencies, or deployment requirements. - Experience with YAML-based configuration, Kubernetes manifests, CRDs, and pipeline configurations. - Active U.S. government security clearance and current DoD 8570 IAT II certification.

Nice to have - Experience designing, implementing, or troubleshooting APIs and backend services. - Familiarity with one or more modern application stacks such as C#/.NET, Python/FastAPI, React, Vue, or NGINX-hosted applications. - Experience with Helm, GitOps, observability, distributed architectures, security automation, or everything-as-code practices. - Experience mentoring engineers through pairing, technical guidance, or code reviews. - Department of Defense experience supporting a production ATO system, including UDS Core, Iron Bank, or C-ATO processes.
