Platform Engineer (FedD029)

Role overview

This position supports a U.S. federal government contractor building secure, cloud-native platforms for mission-critical workloads. The Platform Engineer owns Kubernetes-based runtime environments, infrastructure automation, and the connective tissue between application developers and the production platform. An active Secret security clearance is mandatory, with 10–25% travel expected.

Responsibilities

- Validate platform solutions and implementations against task requirements and business goals, preserving integrity and efficiency. - Independently solve business problems by designing and building small components without relying on explicit architecture diagrams. - Act as the bridge between application development teams and the production environment, advocating best practices and easing cross-team communication. - Estimate time and effort for medium-sized tasks, contributing to project planning and resource allocation. - Apply at least one programming language alongside shell scripting, choosing the right tool for efficient task execution. - Collaborate across functional teams to integrate components into a cohesive, functional platform.

Requirements

- Proven experience as a Platform Engineer or similar role with a focus on system architecture and development. - Hands-on experience with Kubernetes, Google Cloud, and Docker in production settings. - Familiarity with continuous delivery, distributed architectures, containerization, everything-as-code, and cloud services. - Proficiency in at least one programming language such as Python, Go, or Ansible, plus strong YAML skills. - Track record working on Agile teams in a remote environment. - Active Secret security clearance. - DoD 8570 IAT II certification. - Experience on a Department of Defense production system operating under an Authority to Operate (ATO). - Working knowledge of DevSecOps/DevOps and CI/CD theory.

Nice to have

- Security automation experience spanning API, container, and cloud security. - Background in security-aware architecture design, monitoring, and performance instrumentation across complex enterprise environments. - Comfort debugging distributed systems and reading or writing production code.
