Role overview This is a senior technical leadership role that anchors a developer advocacy function through executive-level storytelling. The position blends engineering depth with creative content work, shaping how CTOs, VPs of Engineering, and technical architects engage with an evolving technology landscape. The Staff Developer Advocate owns projects end-to-end and serves as a mentor across the team.
Responsibilities - Serve as the primary technical storyteller for senior executive audiences - Drive the strategy and execution of first-party technical event content programs aimed at executive-level attendees - Define and lead executive advocacy programs targeting CTOs, VPs of Engineering, and technical architects - Represent technical perspectives in the field at conferences and events - Coach internal product and engineering leaders on public communication and presentation delivery - Create content across multiple mediums (demos, blog posts, webinars, open-source work, documentation, research reports) to build credibility in DevOps, observability, and security - Contribute product feedback drawn from community and customer interactions
Requirements - Approximately 5+ years of hands-on experience as a software developer, SRE, or similar practitioner - Approximately 8+ years in senior technical leadership roles (e.g., Principal Engineer, VP/Director-level, Staff Developer Advocate) collaborating with peer leaders on technical direction - Approximately 3+ years producing technical content such as conference talks, written articles, workshops, live streams, or open-source contributions - A public portfolio of writing samples, demos, or recorded presentations - Demonstrated experience coaching others to deliver compelling public talks - Experience collaborating with technical conference organizers or organizing events yourself - Self-directed learner who enjoys exploring new languages and technologies
