About this role

Role overview A process manufacturing software provider is hiring a Director of Software Engineering to lead its Engineering Software Group, which spans three product families covering chemical process simulation, fluid flow simulation, and reliability modeling. The role reports to the group's General Manager and partners with Product Management, R&D, and Strategy to modernize legacy development environments, scale delivery, and shape an AI-first engineering culture. The right leader combines architectural judgment, modern DevOps expertise, and a pragmatic approach to evolving complex scientific software.

Responsibilities - Lead software development teams across the chemical process simulation, flow simulation, and reliability modeling product lines. - Define and continuously improve development practices including version control, code review, automated testing, CI/CD, and agile processes. - Own the group's AI adoption strategy for both internal engineering workflows and AI-powered product capabilities, with clear criteria for what to adopt. - Drive measurable improvements in throughput, release cadence, and quality using engineering metrics such as cycle time, lead time, and defect rates. - Set long-term architectural direction across the platforms, including modularization, service decomposition, interface design, scalability, and performance. - Proactively identify technical debt and architectural risk, and lead timely remediation, refactoring, or replatforming decisions. - Mentor engineers and team leads, set a high hiring bar, and build succession plans and onboarding playbooks that absorb future acquisitions repeatably.

Requirements - Bachelor's degree in Computer Science, Engineering, or a related technical field. - 7+ years of software development experience, including 3+ years in engineering management or technical leadership at a director-level scope. - Demonstrated success modernizing legacy development environments and evolving teams with limited prior process maturity. - Strong understanding of modern software architecture principles including modularization, service decomposition, and interface design. - Ability to hold technical discussions across stacks, with familiarity in Microsoft-based ecosystems such as .NET, C++, or VB.NET. - Proven success introducing or evolving Agile practices and a track record of partnering effectively with product and R&D counterparts.

Nice to have - Background delivering commercial desktop or simulation software at scale. - Exposure to simulation or scientific modeling in chemical or mechanical engineering domains. - Experience with Git-based workflows, branching strategies, DevOps automation, and tools such as Jira, Notion, or Agile metrics platforms. - History of building engineering practices and playbooks that scale across multiple acquired products or teams. - Experience managing distributed and international teams.
