About this role

Role overview

Set enterprise direction for intelligent scientific instruments, laboratory automation, and autonomous workflows. This role connects scientific processes, hardware, software, data, and AI into interoperable systems that can be validated and deployed across varied laboratory environments. It combines technical strategy with cross-organization execution and the development of reusable architectures and customer-facing capabilities.

Responsibilities

- Establish requirements and adoption plans for automation-ready instruments, APIs, data models, connectivity, and workflow integration. - Assess laboratory standards and protocols, translating relevant requirements into reusable interfaces, product roadmaps, and testable criteria. - Guide the roadmap for intelligent workflows, autonomous workcells, and lab-in-the-loop experimentation. - Define compute approaches for intelligent instruments and AI-enabled labs, weighing edge, local, cloud, and hybrid designs against security, latency, reliability, and cost needs. - Validate capabilities in real operating settings and work with product, engineering, scientific, and commercial teams to turn them into deployable solutions. - Align priorities, investment, ownership, and outcomes across business units and external technology partners.

Requirements

- Experience leading complex technical programs in laboratory automation, scientific instruments, workflow software, AI-enabled systems, digital platforms, or related fields. - Ability to integrate hardware, software, automation, data, AI, and scientific methods into dependable products or platforms; familiarity with instrument APIs and SDKs. - A record of taking emerging technologies from strategy and architecture through validation, deployment, adoption, and commercialization, with measurable results. - Experience coordinating cross-functional programs across technical disciplines and organizational boundaries. - Working knowledge of laboratory standards and protocols such as MHS, MCP, SiLA 2, and OPC UA/LADS, including their trade-offs and maturity.

Benefits and work setup

- Remote work from home is available for this position. - Compensation is listed at $200,000–$230,000 annually, with eligibility for incentive pay. Benefits include paid time off, medical, dental, vision, and 401(k), subject to eligibility.
