Remote job
Staff Software Engineer: Perpetuals
Job details
About this role
Role overview The Staff Software Engineer leads the technical architecture and roadmap for a perpetuals trading experience within a self-custodial digital asset wallet, spanning browser extension and mobile clients. The role owns trading-critical concerns including real-time price and position data flows, order execution, margin and liquidation UX, precision handling, state consistency under high-frequency updates, and resilience to feed and connectivity failures. It is a remote-first, globally distributed position with Staff-level scope: setting technical direction, de-risking hard problems, and aligning multiple teams. Applications are not being considered from candidates based in France, Italy, or Germany.
Responsibilities - Own the technical architecture and roadmap for the perpetuals experience across extension and mobile, from price/position data flows through order execution and margin and liquidation UX. - Set technical direction and standards for trading-critical features, including precision and decimal handling, state consistency, and resilience to feed or connectivity failures. - Drive cross-team technical alignment with other experience teams and backend or protocol integration teams to ship complex, multi-team projects. - Identify and de-risk the hardest technical problems on the roadmap and make build-versus-buy and architecture trade-off calls for the domain. - Partner with the Engineering Manager on prioritization, providing the technical judgment that shapes sequencing. - Mentor senior and mid-level engineers, run design and architecture reviews, and raise the technical bar through documentation and code review. - Represent perpetuals engineering in cross-functional planning with Product, Design, and other engineering leads.
Requirements - 8+ years working with web and mobile-based technologies. - Experience building trading, financial, or other correctness-critical systems where precision, race conditions, and state consistency carry real financial risk. - Experience with real-time data systems such as WebSockets, streaming price feeds, and optimistic UI updates, and building resilient UX around unreliable network conditions. - A track record of leading technical initiatives across multiple teams or codebases without direct reporting authority, demonstrating Staff-level scope. - Hands-on experience with React and React Native, and extensive experience with modern JavaScript or TypeScript. - Blockchain fundamentals across multiple architectures, plus experience consuming and building APIs, working in agile teams, and a demonstrable understanding of continuous integration. - Strong understanding of security risks specific to financial and trading products, including transaction integrity, race conditions, precision and rounding bugs, and standard web security threats.
Nice to have - Direct experience integrating with perpetuals or derivatives protocols such as Hyperliquid, Lighter, or similar, or building trading infrastructure. - Experience with cross-chain bridges, transaction lifecycle, or interoperability solutions, and prior work in Web3 or distributed, decentralized teams. - Mobile experience with React Native, Objective-C, or Swift.
Benefits and work setup - Remote-first, global team with an agile, startup-style environment. - Background and identity verification checks may be required as a condition of employment.
