Lead Product Manager

Role overview

This position leads product strategy and execution for digital programs that help individuals access critical public benefits and services, including work focused on safety net, tax benefits, and criminal justice initiatives. The role partners with government agencies and community organizations to deliver user-centered products that address systemic barriers for historically underserved populations. It is a fully remote position based in the United States, reporting to the Director of Product, with up to 15% travel expected.

Responsibilities

- Set and own the product vision, strategy, and execution roadmap for an assigned program area, partnering closely with program management and cross-disciplinary teammates - Drive alignment with internal teams and external partners, clearly communicating the product direction and rationale to diverse stakeholders - Lead a multi-disciplinary team (including design, research, and engineering) to prototype, test, and ship solutions that expand access to benefits and services - Identify and escalate risks, collaborate on mitigation strategies, and continuously evolve team processes to focus on high-impact work - Model constructive communication by practicing active listening, encouraging feedback, and welcoming differing perspectives across the team - Contribute additional leadership or program work as assigned to advance overall mission outcomes

Requirements

- Seven or more years of product management experience with a track record of leading high-quality product development - Demonstrated ability to lead cross-functional teams using agile methodologies and modern software development practices - Strong stakeholder management skills, including experience aligning internal and external partners around a shared product vision - Skill in solving complex, ambiguous problems and delivering user-centered digital services - Empathy-driven, mission-oriented approach with experience building products for underserved communities

Nice to have

- Background working with government agencies, nonprofit partners, or civic technology projects - Familiarity with prototyping, service design, or systems-change initiatives
