Remote job
Senior Backend Engineer, Cloud Platform
Job details
About this role
Role overview Build and operate the cloud infrastructure that supports a large, growing software platform. You’ll shape the compute, networking, and infrastructure-as-code foundations, with particular focus on Kubernetes and AWS, so product teams can deliver without platform limits. The role combines hands-on engineering with reliability ownership and close work across security, operations, product, and AI teams.
Responsibilities - Design and scale AWS infrastructure and reusable platform components, especially around Kubernetes, networking, and self-managed services. - Spot capacity, reliability, security, and cost risks early, then develop improvements before they impede product work. - Automate environment and shard provisioning, and build infrastructure guardrails and hardened ingress. - Support multi-shard and multi-region growth while addressing disaster recovery, enterprise security, and compliance needs. - Work with SRE, security, product, AI, and enterprise partners to connect infrastructure work with product needs. - Participate in on-call, incident response, postmortems, and prevention; use AI tools in engineering and operational workflows.
Requirements - At least 6 years building and operating large distributed systems, with a focus on cloud infrastructure or compute platforms. - Hands-on production Kubernetes operations and troubleshooting, including control plane, nodes, and networking; fleet-scale managed Kubernetes experience is especially relevant. - Strong AWS experience across services such as managed Kubernetes, compute, serverless, API gateways, virtual networks, identity, object storage, and key management. - Experience with multi-account cloud networking, including routing, private connectivity, DNS, and load balancing. - Infrastructure-as-code experience at scale, particularly with Terraform, plus fluency in Go, Python, or TypeScript/Node.js. - Background operating data stores and hybrid monolith/microservice systems, improving reliability and security, debugging production issues, and communicating across teams. - Regular use of AI tools, with specific examples of how they improve engineering work.
Nice to have - Experience with a cloud provider’s generative AI service or infrastructure development kits. - Familiarity with compliance programs such as SOC 2 or ISO 27001.
