Senior Software Engineer - Clickpipes (CDC/Streaming)
Job details
About this role
Role overview
A senior engineering role focused on building real-time data replication infrastructure that streams changes from operational databases into a high-performance analytical store at petabyte scale. The team maintains an open-source CDC platform and tackles distributed systems problems such as schema evolution during live replication, cross-system data type compatibility, low-latency streaming under unpredictable load, and durable execution across unreliable networks.
Responsibilities
- Design and build high-throughput integrations between operational databases (Postgres, MySQL, MongoDB), open table formats (Iceberg, Delta Lake), and analytical warehouses (BigQuery, Snowflake) - Handle real-world edge cases including unconventional database configurations, type internals, upgrades and failovers, and large transactions - Debug complex production issues using profiling tools (pprof, parca) and observability stacks covering metrics, logs, and traces - Improve infrastructure and tooling to increase reliability, shorten incident response time, and automate operations - Participate in an on-call rotation and produce clear public and internal documentation - Work directly with customers to surface integration requirements, partner cross-functionally, and influence the product roadmap
Requirements
- 5+ years of industry experience building data-intensive software solutions - Proficiency in Go, or strong systems-programming background with the ability to ramp up quickly - Hands-on experience deploying and operating services on at least one major cloud platform (AWS, GCP, or Azure) - Practical Kubernetes experience - Strong production debugging and problem-solving skills - Clear written and verbal communication across design docs, code review, technical discussions, customer calls, and incident response
Nice to have
- Familiarity with database replication technologies, including CDC and logical replication - Experience with durable execution frameworks such as Temporal - Knowledge of data formats and protocols including Avro, Parquet, and Protobuf - Experience with modern data processing frameworks such as Kafka, Spark, or Flink - A track record of maintaining or contributing to open-source software
Benefits and work setup
- Fully remote role with a globally distributed team and hiring footprint spanning more than 25 countries - Employer contributions toward healthcare - Equity stock options granted to every new team member - Flexible time off in the US and generous leave entitlements in other regions - A USD $500 home office setup allowance for remote employees - Periodic in-person company-wide gatherings to encourage in-person collaboration - Engineering culture that values craftsmanship, documentation, continuous learning, and open-source contribution
