Staff Software Engineer, On-Prem

Role overview

Set technical direction for a self-hosted CI/CD platform used in regulated, restricted-network, and data-sensitive environments. The role spans Kubernetes infrastructure, customer operations, and the internal tools that help engineering teams package, test, release, and maintain services in the platform.

Responsibilities

- Define the platform strategy for internal tooling, test infrastructure, and release automation. - Improve installation, upgrades, and everyday operation so customer deployments are more predictable and easier to support. - Own the platform foundation, including Kubernetes infrastructure and tools used by customers and internal teams. - Establish OpenTelemetry-based observability and build diagnostics that help operators and support engineers trace issues to their cause. - Work with Support, Customer Engineering, Product, and engineering leaders to address recurring problems and connect technical choices to business priorities. - Use AI tools as a regular part of engineering work and evaluate where they help solve problems.

Requirements

- 8+ years of experience building production backend or infrastructure systems, with a record of taking responsibility for outcomes. - Strong Go skills, including experience with API design, data modeling, distributed systems, and operational tooling. - Deep hands-on experience designing, deploying, and troubleshooting production Kubernetes systems, including Helm-based deployments. - Experience building internal platforms, tools, or frameworks that improve the productivity of other engineering teams. - Ability to make and explain architecture decisions across systems and teams, weighing technical tradeoffs against business needs. - Regular use of AI tools in engineering, with the ability to describe their benefits and limitations.

Nice to have

Experience supporting customer-operated deployments with air-gapped networks, restricted connectivity, or varied cluster configurations is especially relevant.
