Role overview This role focuses on building, patching, and testing userspace packages for an enterprise Linux distribution used in high-performance computing, AI infrastructure, and regulated workloads. The engineer owns deep work across RPM packaging, CVE remediation, and automation tooling that keeps the operating system secure for demanding customer environments.
Responsibilities - Build, patch, and test RPM packages that ship to enterprise customers, including customizing and optimizing them for specific workloads - Investigate CVEs and apply fixes across older and current package versions - Improve automation and tooling that surrounds the package build and test pipeline - Write automated tests covering individual packages and the system as a whole - Collaborate with engineering, product, open-source community, and sales teams on architecture, planning, and proofs of concept - Document projects to share knowledge and support integration, deployment, and release across servers, VMs, and cloud infrastructure
Requirements - At least four years supporting Linux plus at least two years building Linux packages - Solid grasp of RPM or DEB packaging, Linux internals, and how packages interact inside an operating system - Experience with Linux administration, Docker, Kubernetes, and CI/CD pipelines - Proficiency with Bash, YAML, XML, JSON, REST/OpenAPI, and HTTP methods, plus familiarity with GoLang, Python, and Ansible - Comfort working independently in a remote, agile team - Strong debugging, problem-solving, and communication skills
Nice to have - Familiarity with DoD STIG, SCAP, or similar hardening frameworks
