Job details
About this role
Role overview A senior backend engineering role on a customer platform team that owns shared capabilities powering multiple products, including notification systems, authentication, and public APIs. The position is highly visible, fast-paced, and product-driven, partnering closely with Product Management and front-end Experience teams to deliver features that external customers depend on daily.
Responsibilities - Design, build, and evolve customer-facing backend services and public APIs that serve diverse product lines and customer segments. - Own features end-to-end, from initial design through implementation, rollout, and post-launch iteration. - Write technical design documents and lead design planning with clarity and confidence. - Partner with Product Management and Experience teams to deliver against a roadmap with real deadlines and clear outcomes. - Balance tradeoffs and ship iteratively, prioritizing progress over waiting for a perfect solution.
Requirements - 5+ years of experience building production backend services and APIs in a modern cloud environment. - Proficiency in Go (Golang), or strong readiness to ramp quickly, as the codebase is written in Go. - Hands-on experience designing, implementing, and evolving public APIs consumed across multiple products, including versioning, backwards compatibility, authentication, and usability. - Familiarity with microservices and cloud-native architectures, including containers, Kubernetes, observability, and resilience patterns. - Strong communication and collaboration skills, with the ability to work effectively with PMs, designers, and engineers across product lines. - Self-directed, comfortable with ambiguity, and energized by a high-paced, remote, startup culture.
Nice to have - Prior experience building platform or shared services that span multiple products or customer experiences. - Background in the cloud-native, containers, or security ecosystem, including tools in the broader CNCF space. - Meaningful open source contributions, especially as a maintainer or regular contributor.
Benefits and work setup - Remote-first culture with team meetups, bi-annual destination summits, and a monthly stipend for coworking, phone, and internet. - Equity grants with a 10-year exercise window and opportunities to participate in secondary offerings. - 100% employer-paid health, vision, and dental premiums for employees and dependents. - Flexible, unlimited time off and 18 weeks of paid parental leave for birthing parents and 12 weeks for non-birthing parents.
