About this role
Role overview
This director role leads a small, multi-disciplinary organization through a transformation from traditional IT and systems administration toward platform and data engineering. The position owns the integrated technical roadmap for business systems, enterprise data, and integrations, while steering the org toward AI-driven, headless, API and MCP-driven architectures.
Responsibilities
- Lead the systems and engineering organization through a shift from admin-centric operations to platform and data engineering. - Own the technical architecture, design, and delivery roadmap across business systems, enterprise data, and integrations. - Directly manage and grow engineering-track managers and individual contributors, including mentorship and career pathing. - Establish and codify standards, style guides, workflows, and ceremonies into a coherent operating model that leverages AI and agentic processes. - Partner with Product, Success, and Program Management to prioritize and deliver the roadmap by translating business, process, and product requirements into technical scope, staffing, and sequencing decisions. - Act as the internal technical counterpart to vendors and partners, including reviewing architecture proposals and owning technical builds. - Own the security, RBAC, and data-governance posture of platforms, especially from an audit and access-control risk perspective. - Partner with engineering leaders across the company on best practices and reuse of existing platforms, components, and code.
Requirements
- 8+ years of experience in software, platform, or data engineering, including 4+ years managing engineers and engineering managers. - Demonstrated ownership of team-based technical architecture and engineering practices such as repo management, CI/CD, code review standards, and test or regression discipline. - Experience managing a technically mixed organization of engineers, data engineers, and platform or systems administrators. - Strong working fluency in modern, event-based, service-oriented architectures using server-side JavaScript, TypeScript, or Node.js within a primarily serverless AWS environment. - Deep experience with REST and GraphQL API architectures, including authorization strategies such as OAUTH and JWT. - Familiarity with data engineering fundamentals such as SQL, Python, dbt or data modeling, pipeline orchestration, batch and near-real-time ETLs, reverse ETLs, and medallion architectures. - Experience with infrastructure-as-code platforms such as Terraform for DevOps and cloud infrastructure.
Nice to have
- Modern AI-centric engineering workflows and practices. - Experience with Model Context Protocol (MCP) and building autonomous AI agents. - Hands-on experience with graph theory and databases as a context layer for AI co-pilots, workflows, and agents. - Track record managing vendors and implementation partners on complex platform builds. - Experience with enterprise SaaS platforms used in GTM or Finance such as Marketo, Salesforce, NetSuite, or similar at an architectural and API level.
Benefits and work setup
- Candidates must be located in the CST or EST timezone.
