Role overview

A growing cloud-based learning platform is hiring a Staff or Senior Accountant to join its finance team in a fully remote capacity, reporting to the Controller. The position is central to maintaining accurate financial records, producing reports, and supporting budgeting, forecasting, audits, and process improvements across the organization. The team supports certification, credentialing, test prep, continuing education, and corporate training programs serving a large learner base.

Responsibilities

- Manage day-to-day accounting operations including account reconciliations, journal entries, accounts receivable, accounts payable, and billing - Review company expenditures, confirm proper allocation across departments, and communicate results to budget owners - Evaluate transactions for correct accounting treatment under GAAP and internal policies, with attention to revenue recognition for billing activity - Review general ledger accounts, post monthly, quarterly, and yearly accruals, and assist in building balance sheets, income statements, and statements of cash flow - Support the design and preparation of budgets, including variance analysis, and produce year-end schedules for annual tax filings - Identify and implement improvements to accounting processes, controls, and procedures

Requirements

- Bachelor's degree in accounting; CPA preferred - Three to five years of experience for the Staff Accountant track, or five to eight years for the Senior Accountant track, ideally with public accounting exposure - Working knowledge of financial statement preparation, GAAP, and revenue recognition standards - Advanced proficiency in Microsoft Excel and prior experience with platforms such as NetSuite, Intacct, or QuickBooks - Strong analytical and problem-solving skills with attention to detail, organization, and deadlines - Self-starter who can work independently and collaboratively, with clear written and verbal communication
