Role overview The role is a fully remote accounting position supporting the day-to-day finance function of a cloud-based learning platform that serves certification, credentialing, test prep, and continuing-education organisations. It reports into the Controller and focuses on keeping the general ledger accurate while contributing to budgets, audits, and process improvements.

Responsibilities - Own core accounting workflows including account reconciliations, journal entries, accounts receivable, accounts payable, and billing. - Analyse company expenditures to confirm proper expense allocation across departments and report variances back to budget owners. - Review transactions to ensure accounting treatment complies with GAAP and internal policies. - Apply revenue recognition policies to billing transactions and validate allocations. - Prepare monthly, quarterly, and yearly journal entries and accruals, and assist in building balance sheet, income statement, and cash-flow statements. - Support budget design, year-end audit and tax schedules, and ongoing improvements to accounting procedures.

Requirements - Bachelor's degree in accounting; CPA preferred. - 3-5 years at staff level or 5-8 years at senior level in accounting or auditing, ideally including public accounting experience. - Strong knowledge of financial statement preparation, GAAP, and revenue recognition. - Advanced Microsoft Excel skills and experience with accounting systems such as NetSuite, Intacct, or QuickBooks. - Clear written and verbal communication, strong analytical and problem-solving ability, and the capacity to manage multiple deadlines in a fast-paced environment.

Nice to have - Public accounting background and prior exposure to systems migrations or process automation initiatives.

Benefits and work setup - Fully remote position. Salary range $65,000-$85,000 based on Chicago market data, plus medical and ancillary benefits, potential annual bonus, work-from-home stipend, flexible paid time off, and an annual $1,200 professional development stipend.
