About this role
Role overview This remote Staff/Senior Accountant role sits within the finance team of a cloud-based learning platform serving certification, credentialing, test prep, and continuing education providers. Reporting to the Controller, the position centers on maintaining accurate financial records, preparing reports, analyzing data, and ensuring regulatory compliance while contributing to budgeting, forecasting, audits, and process improvements. The work supports the financial health and strategic decision-making of an organization serving nearly 11 million learners.
Responsibilities - Manage core accounting activities including account reconciliations, journal entries, accounts receivable, accounts payable, and billing - Analyze company expenditures, confirm proper allocation of expenses across departments, and report findings to department leaders - Review transactions to confirm accounting treatment aligns with GAAP and internal policies, including revenue recognition on billing transactions - Maintain the general ledger, post monthly, quarterly, and yearly accruals, and review balances for accuracy - Support the preparation of balance sheets, income statements, cash flow statements, and budget variance analyses, and assist in designing department budgets - Prepare year-end schedules for annual tax returns and identify opportunities to improve accounting processes and procedures
Requirements - Bachelor's degree in accounting; CPA preferred - 3-5 years of experience for Staff level, or 5-8 years for Senior level, in accounting or auditing; public accounting background preferred - Working knowledge of financial statement preparation, GAAP, and revenue recognition - Advanced proficiency in Microsoft Excel and experience with accounting systems such as NetSuite, Intacct, or QuickBooks - Strong analytical, problem-solving, and verbal and written communication skills, with the ability to work independently and collaboratively - Detail-oriented, highly organized, deadline-driven, and able to manage multiple priorities in a fast-paced environment
