About this role
Role overview A remote research engineering role embedded in a government-funded public health initiative, building and deploying AI-driven applications spanning multimodal models, chatbots, and agent-based simulations. Work centres on adapting full-stack software to real-world health challenges including HIV prevention, STI prevention, nutrition counselling, overdose prevention, and opioid use disorder treatment.
Responsibilities - Design, develop, and optimise multimodal AI models, AI chatbots, and agent-based modeling frameworks - Build and maintain front-end and back-end components for AI-driven research applications - Deploy and scale AI solutions on cloud platforms such as AWS, Azure, or Google Cloud - Translate public health domain knowledge into functional AI features and interventions - Collaborate with public health researchers, data scientists, and domain experts to refine models - Track and integrate emerging AI techniques including large language models, reinforcement learning, and agentic frameworks
Requirements - Proficiency in Python and JavaScript with React or Node.js for full-stack AI and web work - Hands-on experience with machine learning frameworks such as TensorFlow, PyTorch, LangChain, or AutoGen - Strong knowledge of API development, SQL or NoSQL databases, and cloud computing - Front-end experience with React, Vue.js, or Angular - Familiarity with containerisation using Docker and Kubernetes on AWS, Azure, or Google Cloud - Three to five years of experience developing AI applications and the ability to collaborate across multidisciplinary teams
Nice to have - Bachelor's degree or higher in computer science or a closely related field - Experience with health-related AI applications, digital health interventions, LLMs, multimodal AI, or reinforcement learning - Familiarity modifying agent-based models in epidemiology or public health contexts
