Product Owner, AI Email App

Role overview Own the product direction and quality of an AI-powered email experience designed to help people manage conversations and everyday workflows with little or no prompting. You’ll work across user needs, machine-learning capabilities, and engineering constraints, shaping how the system behaves and how its usefulness, reliability, and trustworthiness are measured.

Responsibilities - Define requirements for AI features from model behavior through system design to the user experience. - Turn model evaluations and technical constraints into product decisions, specifications, and priorities. - Balance quality, response time, cost, reliability, safety, and usability when making trade-offs. - Partner with machine-learning, backend, and client engineers on architecture, evaluation, and iteration. - Build feedback and measurement loops using offline metrics, live experiments, and human review. - Identify failure modes and set quality standards so features behave predictably and recover appropriately.

Requirements - Strong computer science fundamentals and system design ability. - Practical understanding of modern machine learning and how AI products behave in production. - Experience owning complex technical products end to end, including AI products that use large language models. - Familiarity with model evaluation, experimentation, prompting, or iterative AI development. - Ability to turn ambiguous problems into measurable outcomes, clear requirements, and executable plans. - Sound judgment, curiosity, and the ability to work closely with engineers while challenging decisions constructively.

Nice to have - Experience launching AI-focused consumer products or taking a product from concept to launch. - An engineering background or experience defining evaluation metrics for machine-learning systems. - Strong instincts for AI user experience and graceful handling of failures.
