Job details
About this role
Role overview This role sits on a dedicated passkeys engineering team building a credential provider used across browser, desktop, and mobile platforms. The work centers on implementing the WebAuthn and FIDO2 specifications, including credential creation, assertion, and storage inside an end-to-end encrypted vault. It is a low-level, cross-platform position focused on a shared Rust SDK consumed by every client.
Responsibilities - Design, build, and maintain the WebAuthn and FIDO2 implementation in Rust, covering credential creation, assertion, and storage within an encrypted vault - Integrate the passkey implementation with platform-specific credential provider surfaces across browser, desktop, and mobile clients - Contribute to the design, development, and evolution of a shared Rust SDK, including language bindings and FFI, that is consumed across all clients - Implement and help shape emerging standards for credential portability, enabling secure import and export between providers - Build interoperability testing to validate correctness against the long tail of relying parties, browsers, and platforms encountered in production - Participate in code reviews, share technical knowledge, and independently plan, estimate, and deliver feature work and bug fixes
Requirements - Strong expertise developing and maintaining production Rust components, including libraries, language bindings, and FFI - Experience implementing a standard or protocol directly from its specification, with disciplined attention to edge cases and real-world conformance - Working knowledge of applied cryptography, including public key cryptography, signatures, and key handling - A rigorous approach to correctness, writing readable and testable code while carefully reasoning about failure modes in sensitive software - Comfort using AI tooling in development and testing workflows - Collaborative mindset with strong communication skills and enthusiasm for open source work
Nice to have - Experience with Electron, TypeScript, and other web technologies for cross-platform desktop and web clients
Benefits and work setup - Remote-first work with a distributed, supportive engineering team - A culture that encourages personal growth, with roughly 15% of the week self-directed toward learning, skill building, or pursuits that benefit the team - Commitment to an inclusive workplace where hiring is based on skills, experience, qualifications, and business needs
