Lead Android Engineer

Role overview

We are hiring a Lead Android Engineer to own the technical direction, architecture, and delivery of a mobile banking platform while managing a small team of Android engineers embedded in cross-functional value streams. This is a hands-on leadership role combining daily production coding with roadmap ownership, architectural decision-making, and people management in a regulated fintech environment. The position partners closely with product, design, iOS, QA, backend, and DevOps counterparts to deliver secure, high-quality mobile experiences for financial institution clients.

Responsibilities

- Define and drive the Android technical roadmap, including architectural decisions, technology selection, and long-term platform direction - Establish and enforce engineering standards for code quality, testing, release readiness, and modern Android practices such as Jetpack Compose, MVVM/Clean Architecture, coroutines, and dependency injection - Lead solution design for new features and major platform initiatives, balancing scalability, security, and maintainability - Plan, estimate, and track delivery across digital banking value streams, proactively unblocking the team and managing technical risks - Contribute production code, review pull requests, debug issues, and optimize performance while mentoring three direct reports through 1:1s, feedback, and growth planning - Coordinate with QA on Android test strategy (unit, integration, UI automation), with DevOps on CI/CD pipelines and release automation, and participate in on-call rotation for production support

Requirements

- 6+ years of Android development experience with deep Kotlin expertise - 2+ years in a tech lead or senior engineering leadership role managing direct reports - Strong proficiency with Jetpack Compose, MVVM/Clean Architecture, Repository pattern, coroutines, and Flow - Experience with dependency injection frameworks such as Hilt or Dagger, and Android testing frameworks including JUnit, Espresso, and Mockk - Familiarity with RESTful API integration, mobile networking patterns, and CI/CD tooling (GitHub Actions, Bitrise, or equivalent) - Demonstrated success leading Android work in a fintech, banking, or similarly regulated environment, ideally within a squad or value-stream model with cross-functional collaboration

Nice to have

- Experience with digital banking products such as mobile banking, account opening, loan origination, or payments - Familiarity with community bank or credit union technology environments - Hands-on mobile security experience in regulated financial services, including certificate pinning, secure storage, and biometric authentication - Exposure to AI-assisted development tools such as Codex, Copilot, or Cursor - Experience migrating Android UI from XML layouts to Jetpack Compose
