Job details
About this role
Role overview A senior leadership role owning the full engineering organization behind a cross-platform computer backup product, spanning the desktop client and the backend services that ingest, store, and restore customer data. The position is hands-on, combining architecture and code review involvement with long-term strategy, multi-quarter delivery planning, budget ownership, and people leadership through Desktop and Backend Leads.
Responsibilities - Lead and develop the complete Computer Backup engineering team, with sub-leads managing day-to-day desktop and backend work, while setting long-term technical direction. - Own the multi-quarter delivery strategy and partner with Product leadership to shape the roadmap, negotiate scope and priorities, and hold accountability for the team's budget. - Participate hands-on in code reviews, architecture discussions, and technical decisions across both desktop and backend codebases, championing engineering quality and automated test coverage. - Run agile ceremonies consistently across the team, including sprint planning, backlog refinement, standups, and retrospectives, partnering with QA and release teams through delivery. - Drive adoption of AI-assisted and agentic development tooling, helping establish team norms for AI-augmented workflows. - Represent the team in executive reviews and customer conversations, communicating risks, trade-offs, and recommendations clearly to senior leadership.
Requirements - 7+ years of engineering management experience, including managing managers or team leads, ideally in cloud, SaaS, desktop software, or platform engineering. - Demonstrated experience setting long-term technical direction, system architecture, and multi-quarter delivery strategy for a growing product or platform. - Track record of owning a team or departmental budget, including resourcing and infrastructure investment decisions. - Deep agile expertise covering scrum, sprint planning, backlog management, estimation, and retrospectives at a delivery-team level. - Strong software engineering background with hands-on capability in system architecture, design reviews, and full-lifecycle delivery from requirements through production support. - Experience managing distributed, remote engineering teams with strong asynchronous communication and remote collaboration practices, plus excellent communication and negotiation skills with senior leadership and major customers.
Nice to have - Familiarity with AI agentic coding tools such as Claude Code and Codex, and a personal enthusiasm for embedding them into team practice.
Benefits and work setup - Competitive compensation and benefits, with an expected base pay range of $205,000 - $240,000 for US-based candidates, depending on location, skills, and experience. - Remote-first culture supporting work-life balance, with collaboration alongside experienced engineering, product, and QA teams in a flat, low-bureaucracy environment. - Opportunity to own an entire product end-to-end, from the desktop experience through the backend that safeguards customer data.
