Remote job
Senior Software Engineer - Data Infrastructure
Job details
About this role
Role overview Build the infrastructure and internal tools that keep a large-scale storage platform reliable as it grows. The role spans automation, observability, capacity reporting, and system health, with ownership of substantial changes from technical design through rollout and operational follow-up.
Responsibilities - Create frameworks that let engineers provision, configure, and repair fleet infrastructure through self-service tools. - Expand monitoring across metrics, logs, traces, and alerts so teams can spot platform health issues and degradation. - Deliver dashboards and reports that clarify fleet health, capacity, and operational trends. - Build tools to identify hardware failures, configuration drift, and capacity risks before they cause incidents. - Lead design discussions and document changes that affect multiple services or teams. - Drive larger features through implementation, migration, backfill, and rollout; work with on-call engineers to turn recurring incidents and toil into automation.
Requirements - Seven or more years of backend development in an enterprise setting, using an object-oriented or systems language such as Java, Rust, C++, C#, or Go. - Experience designing automation platforms or frameworks used by other engineers. - Experience building large-scale systems across thousands of servers and operational tooling that teams rely on regularly. - Working knowledge of observability tools such as Prometheus, Grafana, OpenTelemetry, ELK, or Datadog, including service instrumentation and alert design. - Strong Linux skills and comfort with bare-metal or hybrid infrastructure. - Familiarity with the full software lifecycle, including design, implementation, testing, and rollout; clear communication and analytical problem-solving in a remote team. - Professional experience using AI-assisted development tools.
Nice to have - Java, infrastructure-as-code or configuration tools, time-series databases, or experience with SLOs and reducing alert noise. - Experience automating hardware lifecycle tasks, improving CPU or I/O performance, or working with Linux filesystems and hard-drive optimization. - Skill building or interpreting operational models, dashboards, and reports.
Benefits and work setup - The listing describes healthcare coverage for family, retirement and equity programs, flexible vacation, parental leave, learning support, commuter benefits, and a work-device stipend. - The listed US base salary range is $175,000–$200,000; final compensation may vary by location and experience.
