Remote job
Staff Engineer, Developer Infrastructure
Job details
About this role
Role overview
A Platform Engineering organization that builds the core of a high-performance Layer-1 blockchain network is hiring a Staff Engineer for its Developer Infrastructure team. The mission is to remove friction for the engineers who build consensus engines, virtual machines, and inter-VM networking by delivering durable tooling, automation, and shared technical practice. This is a deeply hands-on role: writing and reviewing code, not coordinating from the side.
Responsibilities
- Partner with Platform Engineering teams to map how they build, test, release, observe, and debug, then prioritize the changes with the highest leverage. - Own and evolve a CI/CD pipeline (built on Bazel and GitHub Actions) so unit, end-to-end, and performance tests remain fast, trustworthy signals of code quality. - Make ephemeral and long-running test environments easy to provision, inspect, compare, and retire. - Improve observability infrastructure so data from diverse environments can be compared coherently across runs, versions, and configurations, surfacing regressions and gains. - Build end-to-end, fuzz, chaos, and failure-injection tests that raise confidence in consensus, networking, and other protocol-adjacent systems. - Convert recurring pain points into tools, automation, and documentation, and spread context through design reviews, examples, and technical writing so other teams can extend the work independently.
Requirements
- 7+ years writing production software with strong ability in Go and/or Rust. - Experience navigating large legacy codebases with multiple teams and shared ownership boundaries. - A track record of building or substantially improving developer infrastructure, CI/CD, test infrastructure, observability, or release tooling. - Strong testing discipline and the judgment to diagnose and pragmatically relieve bottlenecks. - Working fluency with Linux, containers, and infrastructure-as-code. - Demonstrated Staff-level scope: a workstream you created or transformed that other teams came to depend on.
Nice to have
- Hands-on experience with GitHub Actions or similar CI systems, and Bazel or comparable build systems. - Background in distributed systems, blockchain infrastructure, consensus, or P2P networking. - Kubernetes or similar orchestration platforms. - Large-scale observability: tracing, profiling, and metrics. - Using data to drive performance optimization. - Chaos engineering, fuzzing, property-based testing, or failure-injection systems.
Benefits and work setup
- Global, world-class engineering team working on open, programmable blockchain infrastructure. - Offices in New York City and Miami; remote-friendly culture implied by global team. - Equal opportunity employer; hiring based on qualifications, merit, and business need.
