Senior Software Engineer – IT Banking & Payment Operations

Role overview A senior backend engineering role inside a FinTech environment focused on loan accounting and the money flows between investors and borrowers. The position sits within a cross-functional agile team building secure, scalable services that sit behind a consumer lending platform.

Responsibilities - Design and evolve architecture for secure, scalable financial services, balancing reliability, cost, and long-term maintainability. - Build event-driven components within a service-oriented architecture, working with Kafka for messaging. - Develop and ship backend services using object-oriented PHP and MySQL. - Operate and deploy via Kubernetes, Docker, and CI/CD pipelines. - Drive engineering quality through code reviews, documentation, and testing practices (PHPUnit, Cypress). - Mentor teammates, lead design reviews, and address root causes of recurring technical issues.

Requirements - Several years of hands-on backend experience with object-oriented PHP and MySQL. - Practical experience with Kubernetes, Docker, and CI/CD pipelines. - Familiarity with Kafka and event-driven or service-oriented architectures. - Proficiency with Git and collaborative development workflows. - Strong English communication skills; German is a plus. - Interest in financial systems, with a product-oriented mindset.

Nice to have - Monitoring and performance tuning with New Relic or similar tooling. - Prior FinTech development experience.
