Role overview
This is a contract position dedicated to the ongoing maintenance and engineering health of a web browser's graphics subsystem. The work covers rendering, compositing, image handling, canvas, and WebGL surfaces across desktop and mobile platforms. The central mission is keeping the graphics area stable and well-maintained so senior engineers can devote their attention to performance initiatives.
Responsibilities
- Own day-to-day graphics maintenance, including bug fixes, regressions, test upkeep, and triaging incoming issues. - Diagnose and resolve graphics problems across Windows, macOS, Linux, and Android. - Carry out code review and routine engineering tasks that clear the path for senior staff to focus on performance work. - Help keep the graphics area healthy with a controlled backlog and minimal regressions.
Requirements
- Strong proficiency in C++ and/or Rust. - Knowledge of graphics frameworks and GPU architecture. - Solid debugging and optimization skills within a multithreaded codebase. - Ability to work independently and lead technically inside a large, mature codebase.
Nice to have
- Experience with shader languages. - Familiarity with mobile or Android graphics paths. - Prior open-source collaboration experience.

- Contract engagement with disclosed compensation bands: Canada Tier 1 locations $145,800–$186,172 CAD; Canada Tier 2 locations $131,400–$154,600 CAD.
