Senior Software Engineer, Add-Ons

Role overview Senior Software Engineer position focused on the add-ons ecosystem for a privacy-focused web browser used by hundreds of millions of people worldwide. The role centers on building resilient systems that accelerate review and moderation workflows, modernize the developer hub, and improve the platform used by extension developers and end users. The engineer will partner closely with reviewers, developer support, leadership, and community contributors to ship polished features and architectural improvements.

Responsibilities - Deliver major features and architectural improvements across the add-ons stack, including automated moderation pipelines, reviewer tooling, and developer hub surfaces. - Establish and maintain engineering standards covering code review, definition of done, production readiness, runbooks, incident response, on-call practices, and infrastructure as code. - Build observability systems and produce data-backed insights that improve reliability and operational visibility. - Improve CI/CD pipelines using declarative, pipeline-as-code approaches that keep changes reproducible, testable, and easy to review. - Write clear technical documentation, including design notes, Architecture Decision Records, runbooks, and incident write-ups. - Collaborate with designers, product managers, QA, and community contributors to ship end-to-end improvements and contribute in the open through pull requests and code reviews.

Requirements - Strong hands-on experience building and maintaining production applications with Python and Django. - Experience operating production software systems where reliability and safe delivery are core concerns. - Strong experience with CI/CD systems and treating infrastructure as code. - Working knowledge of MySQL, React, and TypeScript, plus asynchronous processing systems. - Comfort working in unfamiliar codebases, tracing requests and background jobs end-to-end to diagnose failures. - Demonstrated ability to deliver iteratively using a visible backlog, short feedback cycles, retrospectives, and stakeholder demonstrations.

Nice to have - Familiarity with trust and safety signals, content moderation tooling, or developer platform engineering. - Experience modernizing legacy stacks or designing paved paths for safe deployments.
