About this role
Role overview
Build and extend an AI assistant that helps scientists carry out computational chemistry, literature research, and internal data analysis through conversation. As the second engineer on the product, you will work closely with its technical lead and scientific users, taking requests from design through implementation, validation, and production release.
Responsibilities

Requirements
- Practical experience building LLM agent systems, including tool use, memory, planning, delegation, and evaluation. - Substantial experience using coding agents on a real codebase, with the judgment to review their output and break work into manageable tasks. - At least two years of professional Python or TypeScript experience. - Clear written communication for specifications, reviews, and instructions. - Ability to become productive quickly in a large existing codebase.
Nice to have
- Background in chemistry, biology, or another scientific field. - Experience with MCP servers, retrieval or search systems, or training machine-learning models. - Experience working at an early-stage startup.
Benefits and work setup
Full-time, salaried employment with benefits; compensation is $130,000–$170,000 per year depending on qualifications, plus equity, health, dental, and vision insurance, and a 401(k). The role is fully remote within the United States. Applicants must already be authorized to work in the U.S. without current or future visa sponsorship.
