Experience Design Director

Role overview

A senior design leadership role at a digital experience consultancy, unifying UX and UI to shape intuitive, human-centered websites, applications, and connected products. The position blends hands-on design direction with strategic collaboration alongside strategy leaders, helping translate research into roadmaps, prototypes, and scalable design systems.

Responsibilities

- Set and uphold the design vision and quality standard across client websites and applications, staying hands-on for flagship projects and pitches - Lead, mentor, and grow a design team through clear direction, feedback, and a culture of craft and continuous learning - Partner with strategy counterparts on user research, stakeholder interviews, journey mapping, personas, audits, and usability testing so insights shape design decisions - Co-author experience roadmaps that weigh user impact, business value, and technical feasibility - Own design system strategy, governance, and documentation, building scalable atomic systems and reusable components - Serve as the senior design voice with clients and internal teams, presenting and defending direction while contributing to proposals and estimates - Champion the team's adoption of emerging tools and AI, defining how new interaction models enter both the design process and client experiences

Requirements

- 10+ years designing digital experiences across platforms and devices, ideally within an agency or consultancy managing multiple clients - Deep Figma expertise with the ability to guide design system architecture and review detailed work - Proficiency with Adobe Creative Cloud and other industry-standard design tools - Experience building and maintaining atomic design systems - Working knowledge of HTML/CSS and an understanding of how design decisions translate into front-end development - Track record leading UX strategy from discovery through delivery, including DXP implementations (such as Sitecore or Optimizely) - Bachelor's degree preferred, or equivalent experience in digital-first environments

- Familiarity with AI-powered experiences and emerging interaction patterns - Experience contributing to new business through pitches, proposals, and project estimates
