About this role
Role overview A technical writer role embedded with systems engineering and software development teams supporting critical defense submarine programs for a federal government customer. The writer produces, edits, and manages documentation across the full deliverable lifecycle while partnering closely with engineers and subject matter experts.
Responsibilities - Draft, rewrite, and edit technical documentation in response to upcoming deliverables and customer reviews - Review content for accuracy, clarity, brevity, language quality, compliance, consistency, flow, tone, organization, and adherence to specified style guides - Manage document versions, centralization, configuration, and master document lists - Maintain media content within collaboration platforms such as Confluence and SharePoint - Compile status updates and prepare recurring weekly and monthly reports - Support technical meetings by preparing materials, recording minutes, and tracking action items - Coordinate scheduling and delivery of formal contract documentation - Collaborate with technical leads and subject matter experts on long-term content improvement plans - Support model-based document auto-generation setup and ongoing content maintenance - Document internal processes and contribute to a collaborative, mentoring team environment
Requirements - 2-3 years of experience writing, updating, and maintaining technical systems documentation for a team - Strong technical writing and editing skills applied to reports, summaries, presentations, and other technical artifacts - Proficiency in Microsoft Word and PowerPoint - Experience with Confluence or comparable wiki platforms - Ability to learn new software tools and technical concepts quickly - Ability to obtain and maintain a DoD Secret security clearance within one year of employment
Nice to have - Familiarity integrating graphics into documents - Experience with Excel, SharePoint, OneDrive, and Teams for collaboration and content management - Background producing technical writing for federal defense programs - Understanding of government contracts, CDRLs, and Data Item Descriptions - Exposure to process improvement methods and Agile/Scrum development environments
