A Software Engineer role focused on Java-based development for an enterprise time tracking product used by teams worldwide. The position sits within a self-organizing cross-functional product team and emphasizes high-quality engineering practices, cloud deployment, and continuous learning across multiple technology stacks. This is a fully remote role based in Spain, with optional access to a Bilbao office.
Responsibilities
- Collaborate within a cross-functional product team including engineers, designers, product managers, and support specialists - Design, build, and maintain application features that deliver customer value - Establish and follow engineering best practices including coding standards, automated testing, code reviews, and pair programming - Contribute openly to discussions about product and strategy direction - Champion improvements within the team and product while owning outcomes proactively - Self-direct day-to-day work structure with no micromanagement
Requirements
- Proven track record of delivering multiple software development projects or products - Hands-on experience with GraphQL and REST API development using Java - Strong theoretical foundations in computer science, including data structures, algorithms, and computational complexity - Understanding of modular monolith architectures and clean domain boundaries, with practical cloud implementation experience on Azure, GCP, or AWS - Familiarity with Docker and Kubernetes - Practical experience using AI-assisted development tools responsibly, with awareness of code quality, security, and data privacy - English proficiency at B2 level or higher
Nice to have
- Experience with .NET, Node.js, and TypeScript on the backend - Frontend experience with React and Redux - Familiarity with microservices architectures - SQL experience with PostgreSQL or MSSQL
