Job details
About this role
Role overview Join a small platform team as a senior backend individual contributor, improving the infrastructure, reliability, security, and developer experience used across an engineering organization. You’ll identify and lead substantial technical initiatives from initial investigation through delivery, working with the platform lead and coordinating with other teams.
Responsibilities - Design and build scalable, reliable backend systems and contribute to architecture decisions. - Find and scope high-impact platform problems, weighing their priority and timing. - Lead cross-team initiatives from analysis through implementation and completion. - Build and maintain cloud infrastructure and internal tools, including infrastructure as code. - Improve observability, logging, availability, and operational practices. - Support engineering quality through reviews, pairing, knowledge sharing, and testing; identify useful opportunities for automation and AI.
Requirements - At least five years of backend development experience, including ownership of significant technical work from ambiguity to completion. - Hands-on experience with infrastructure, reliability, or performance, ideally in a platform or infrastructure setting. - Ability to design and scale distributed systems in cloud environments; AWS experience is preferred, while strong Azure experience can transfer. - Familiarity with containerized services and infrastructure as code, such as Docker and Terraform. - Ability to write unit and integration tests without relying on a dedicated QA team. - Fluent English and the ability to explain a technical project, your contribution, and its impact.
Nice to have - C#/.NET, PostgreSQL, AWS, ECS, or Kubernetes experience. - Terraform experience, including setting up infrastructure as code or migrating from another approach. - Kafka or other event-driven systems, and experience owning observability for highly available services. - Use of AI-assisted development tools or experience mentoring engineers and introducing tools to teams.
Benefits and work setup - Remote, office, or hybrid work, with an emphasis on results. - 30 days of vacation, a learning budget of €1,000 or more per year, wellbeing membership, and covered public transport in Germany. - International colleagues, feedback and career development programs, and team events.
