Senior Backend Engineer

Role overview A senior backend engineering role at a remote games studio, building and scaling backend systems that power global, high-traffic consumer products. The position spans backend services, APIs, databases, and live operations, with a meaningful focus on integrating AI models and AI-powered capabilities directly into production systems.

Responsibilities - Design, build, and maintain scalable backend services, APIs, and reusable components that support multiple products and use cases. - Shape system design and database schemas, queries, indexing, and data models, including asynchronous systems built on queues, workers, scheduled jobs, and event-driven workflows. - Integrate third-party platforms, APIs, and AI providers, building reliable interfaces and end-to-end AI-enabled workflows that connect models with databases, APIs, and backend logic. - Support systems through the full lifecycle, from development through production and live operations, including incident response, performance tuning, and capacity scaling. - Implement and maintain monitoring, logging, alerting, error handling, and overall system health tracking across production environments. - Partner with engineering, product, data, and infrastructure teams on architecture reviews, technical planning, code reviews, and continuous improvement of engineering practices.

Requirements - 5+ years of professional backend engineering experience building complex production systems at scale. - Strong command of backend fundamentals including distributed systems, API design, databases, caching, concurrency, scalability, and reliability. - Production experience with at least one backend language or framework such as Python, Node.js/TypeScript, Go, Java, or C#. - Strong SQL and relational database design skills, including PostgreSQL or MySQL, plus experience with Redis or similar caching technologies and message queues or event-driven architectures. - Hands-on experience integrating AI tools, models, LLMs, or AI APIs into production systems and building practical solutions on top of them. - Demonstrated ability to operate live production environments, including managing traffic spikes, incidents, database bottlenecks, and uptime targets, with strong problem-solving and ownership skills.

Nice to have - Experience supporting backend systems for mobile games, consumer apps, or other high-scale products.
